The Coffee
Our first Rwanda of the year which was brought to us by Raw Material, a social enterprise importer who donate 100% of their profits to the producers.
The Gakenke district where Bumbogo is located, is also an area known for high-quality coffee production in Rwanda. It is a highly competitive region, and home to several winning Cup of Excellence lots in recent years. Bumbogo is the station closest to Kigali built in 2017. The station has more than doubled their production since 2018, with an impressive expanse of drying beds covering the hills surrounding the washing station itself.
The coffee is a red bourbon variety, grown at 1650 – 2000 masl. The ripe cherries are density sorted, pulped, fermented then washed and dried for 30 days
This coffee has a green apple acidity, red grape sweetness and subtle elderflower notes
